Watan Wuma, performance piece in Berlin.

I tried to get some context for this and I see this gallery write up about the show: http://www.mpa-b.org/lan-hungh-yun-ting-hung—i-chen-tsou.html. And to be clear, it is usually the gallery that requires or writes these silly artists’ statements. The artists themselves are content to just do the work. Watan Wuma could well be an awesome dude that makes good art but these statements, to my mind, assume that the reader is stupid and can’t read through the B.S.. How about just some plain speech info about intention or process plus any background that might be helpful. Instead we get the artist’s statement describing perhaps how this work explores Heidegger’s anachronistic repurposing of Foucault’s unintended exploration of the liminal space between attachment to naturally constructed forms and the hegemon’s modes of oppression through the synethesia of the zeitgeist. Or whatever.

This Taiwanese artist crawled all over this tackle naked without touching the ground. He was naked and people were watching so it may have been solid art and if not, probably pretty entertaining none the less.

Um, “table”.”Tackle” was autocorrect. I’m going to leave it there.

Sort of related, Mots D’Heures: Gousses, Rames: The D’Antin Manuscript (Mother Goose’s Rhymes), published in 1967 by Luis d’Antin van Rooten is purportedly a collection of poems written in archaic French with learned glosses. In fact, they are English-language nursery rhymes written homophonically as a nonsensical French text, that is an English-to-French homophonic translation. Moreover, the result is not merely the English nursery rhyme but that nursery rhyme as it would sound if spoken in English by someone with a strong French accent.
